Daniel Okafor

Head of Equities

Investment Team

Daniel Okafor leads the firm's equity research and manages the European Quality Growth Strategy, which he launched in 2017. He also co-manages the UK Equity Income Strategy with Eleanor Whitcombe. Daniel trained as an accountant, and it shows: he reads the notes to the accounts before the chair's statement, and he will not buy a company until he can say where its cash goes. He spends a week in every month visiting companies on the continent.

Daniel grew up in Leeds and read Economics at the University of Manchester. He trained as a chartered accountant with a large audit firm, working mostly on engineering and manufacturing clients in the north of England. The experience taught him how a factory makes money and how a set of accounts can hide that it does not.

In 2008 he moved into investment as a European industrials analyst in the London office of a large continental asset manager. Four years later he went to Frankfurt to co-manage a European small and mid-cap fund for the investment arm of a German private bank. He joined Wealth in 2016 to build the European strategy and became Head of Equities in 2021. He speaks German and passable Dutch.

He holds a season ticket at Elland Road and rides one Alpine pass every summer, usually a little more slowly than the year before.
